In 2009, I started working on a research tool that did two things: by providing access to full text material from different sources and/or my own annotations to these sources, it helped me write my MA thesis on 18th-century Dutch learned periodicals. While I was doing this, figuring out which code library to use and how to use CSS to present it all nicely, I realised that *this* was I what I wanted my professional life to be about: presenting historical information in an attractive and organised way. A little later, I founded Somtijds, and soon found myself working as a self-employed cultural historian *and* webdeveloper. My professional projects have always kept me too busy to properly get back to research. It's an itch that desperately needs to be scratched ;)
