I grew up drawing in notebooks during school. Later, I studied literature and linguistics in college probably because I saw this as a dual historical/technical approach to learning how to use language -- I want(ed) to be a writer (which, uh-oh, is probably distinct from wanting to write, or from writing). I tried to be a filmmaker/writer/radio producer but mostly ended up being a barista. Then I went to library school, where I learned (among other things) about computers, programming, and metadata. I got to do some text mining, which I enjoy. I want to learn to use computers as I've always used paper: to make fun and interesting projects. Because you asked, I will reveal that I really enjoy Slavoj Žižek's sweaty diatribes on "American feel-um" (i.e., film) and the Lacanian Real.
