I am a New Media Project Specialist within the NMNH Education & Outreach department and center my work on using new media methods for communicating science. I currently lead the video podcasting initiative within the department that films & edits scientific lectures, training sessions and new, unique “edutainment” video podcasts for the web. I worked on the Smithsonian’s first mobile app “MEanderthal,” developed the museum’s iTunes U page, and recently co-project managed the audio-visual upgrade of Baird Auditorium to support live webcasting. Among my responsibilities are serving as a technology consultant for the department, managing the museum’s media content management system and developing media and digital learning experiences for the upcoming Education Center. I have participated in both content and design on the museum’s Ocean Portal and Human Origins websites, and is also the Education POC for the upcoming NMNH Recovering Voices Initiative and exhibition. I am a member of the NMNH Mobile Committee, Web Advisory Group, Diversity Council, and lead the volunteer video team for the Museum Computer Network’s 2011 November conference. I hold a Master’s degree in Maritime Archaeology from the University of Southampton in England and double-majored for my BA in Media Arts and Anthropology from the University of Arizona.
