From Fall 2009 thru Spring 2011, I was an Altman Fellow at the Humanities Center at Miami University of Ohio. This group of interdisciplinary scholars met on a monthly basis to discuss major readings on the topic of "Memory and Culture" as well as to workshop our own writing and research. With my fellow Altman scholars, I helped plan a lecture series and keynote address, centering on the theme “Memory and Culture.” As part of my duties as an Altman Fellow, I delivered a guest lecture for an upper level History Department seminar on the topic of oral history, and I gave a public lecture on my research and writing about choreographer and dancer Pearl Primus. I invited my students to attend all of these events and combined class meetings, and I combined class meetings with attendance at Altman lectures, whenever possible.
