Patrick Murray-John wrote a new post, THATCamp, DH, and my Wardrobe, on the site THATCamp Retrospective right now
The sunsetting of THATCamp is bittersweet for me. It played a fundamental part in both my personal and professional development over its entire span. From the initial reactions on Twitter, and the retrospectives […]

Patrick Murray-John wrote a new post, Git/Hub?, on the site THATCamp AHA 2018 right now
This used to come up a lot, but I haven’t seen it lately. Anyone want an intro to git and/or GitHub, or want to share tricks and tips from git/hub experience?
Yeah, that brief description is all about the […]

Patrick Murray-John wrote a new post, Omeka S, anyone?, on the site THATCamp AHA 2018 right now
Omeka S is a complete rewrite of Omeka. If anyone wants to talk/see about it, here’s a good chance.
I could do a brief overview of the LOD and multisite principles built into it, and will ask for feedback and […]

Patrick Murray-John wrote a new post, What's current in institutional repositories?, on the site THATCamp DC 2017 right now
I’m tangentially familiar with DSpace, Fedora, Archivematica and others. But what’s the current thinking? I see lots of people who might have IR knowledge in the profiles — anyone want to share what they think of […]

Patrick Murray-John replied to the topic October 5 meeting — major questions in the forum THATCamp Council business right now
Thanks, John, for the helpful thoughts and reflection.
My sense regarding the site itself is that the question arises more as an aftereffect of the question of dissolving the Council. The technology is much more stable, thanks to our move to Reclaim, and funding for that remains in place from RRCHNM. Time commitments, I think, are in play — like…[Read more]

Patrick Murray-John replied to the topic October 5 meeting — major questions in the forum THATCamp Council business right now
Initial thoughts. Hopefully, these will pull in more (actually, any) responses. These are strictly my own thoughts as a THATCamp veteran and Council member, and should in no way be read as the direction of the THATCamp Council in general.
These are fundamental, existential questions on the agenda, both for THATCamp and for DH in general. Much of…[Read more]

Patrick Murray-John wrote a new post, Advanced Omeka, on the site THATCamp NOVA-CC 2016 right now
Following up on Megan Brett’s intro to Omeka in the bootcamp on Friday, I’m all in for doing an advanced talk. Generally, this means looking at a standalone Omeka installation, with you installing it on a server […]

Patrick Murray-John commented on the post, What's in a Library?, on the site THATCamp New Souths 2016 right now
RE the question about whether a library tour counts as a THATCamp session, I cast several votes for ‘Heck yes!’. As an unconference, if there’s interest it has legs. As a THATCamp, I walked around the library a […]

Patrick Murray-John wrote a new post, Where does the tech we use fail us?, on the site THATCamp New Souths 2016 right now
From the theme for this THATCamp, especially the intersection of technology with activism and sharing of hidden voices, I’d like to get a frank list of particular points how the technologies we’ve used fail us — […]

Patrick Murray-John replied to the topic January 2016 THATCamp Council meeting agenda in the forum THATCamp Council business right now
To maybe add, depending on the timing: Status of THATCamp Prime:
At RRCHNM, so far no others interested in organizing a “Prime”, which reflects the identity crisis we’ve talked about. Grad students get back week of Jan 18, so will ping them again to see if there’s a group that wants to put on an RRCHNM/Prime THATCamp.
If there’s no interest, I’m…[Read more]

Patrick Murray-John commented on the post, THATCamp Anti-Harassment Policy Draft, on the site THATCamp right now
When we meet, we should probably also declare when the policy kicks in. That is, already-registered THATCamps probably shouldn’t be required to follow the policy — it would be adding a requirement that they […]
