I have a PhD in Slavic Languages & Literatures and was on the faculty of the Slavic Department at UVA for seven years, where I taught film and an interdisciplinary class on "Amerika through Russian Eyes." In both classes, I worked with my students to develop and present their research in digital environments that fostered collaboration to create new knowledge and then sharing what they'd made with a broader audience. I'm also certified by UVA as a "Web Designer" (advanced classes in web design and html). I've been exploring the possibilities of network analysis and 3-D modeling for my own research on Russian literary culture, and here at UCLA I'm getting more involved, from the library side, in digital humanities projects and initiatives. I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, but this is the first time I've been back in Southern California to stay since I graduated from high school. And this time I have a drivers license and no curfew! So it's probably best to stay on the sidewalk if you see me cruising in your direction in my Prius "classic" (the one that doesn't look like a Prius) with the windows rolled down and "All Things Considered" cranked to 11.
