I am a professor in the Department of History, University of Delaware, and I also direct the Museum Studies Program, a certificate program that was founded in 1972 to serve graduate students from any unit on the campus. This is my fourth year in the position. In a recent effort to rebuild long-neglected alumni relations, we identified at least 600 alumni -- and counting. This year, I am also directing strategic planning for the History Media Center of my home department; it was once a vital part of the department's life but has become marginal. I am beginning work on a new project on the lives of people and animals (livestock, wildlife, pets, and others) in one American city over time. This project may not be a book -- it may be a digital project, but I don't know what as of yet. With my administrative obligations this year, I am off to a slow start on the project but this gives me time to think about its format. Yes, my husband and I have pets: two dogs, two cats, a horse, and a tortoise named Sidney who is a much more interesting beast than even I could have anticipated. He has quite a bit of personality for the possessor of such a tiny brain! He even understands that the food comes from the refrigerator and tries to climb in....
