Karinne Keithley Syers
active right now
I've been making performance for 20 years, mostly in downtown New York, in both the dance and experimental theater scenes. Within performance, I make dances, sound designs, songs, texts, and videos. I'm nearing the end of my doctoral studies in English at the CUNY Grad Center, one of several disciplinary wanders that I've taken that fold back into my work in performance. I founded 53rd State Press and continue to co-edit it. Right now I'm shooting a documentary about an arts program that uses dance to break the cycle of poverty in Santa Ana, CA. It's my first foray into audio/video essay. I am best known for my ukulele cover act.
