I graduated a long, long time ago from a small experimental liberal arts college. I majored in Visual Art and attended enough lit classes for a minor, if one had been able to have minor. I then obtained an MFA at UC San Diego where I spent more time learning C on a giant VAX Mini and developing photographs than I did painting. I've worked as a computer graphics and web designer for three different start-ups in the '90s, as an art writer for small magazines, and as an adjunct lecturer teaching drawing and graphic design. I've been the web developer for at the College of Humanities, CSUN, for the past 5 years. I chose a liberal arts college over an art school because I wanted to be literate and because my interests were too broad to be satisfied by one discipline. Artists are the last generalists where one can synthesize ideas from any system of knowledge or technology. In a large institution such as CSUN, the humanities are where students can see the breadth of human endeavors and create from them a world view.
