In 2007-8, while completing a Ph.D. in the English Department at U.Va., I served as one of the inaugural scholars' lab fellows, where I pursued a project keyed to the preparation of a digital gazetteer about _The Maximus Poems_ of Charles Olson. Since then I've also worked on a similar project keyed to _The Cantos_ of Ezra Pound, and I've presented work related to these projects to the Association of American Geographers. For an example of recent work in progress, go to Google Maps and paste the following URL in to the search box: http://users.wpi.edu/~jcocola/maps/gazetteer-cantos.01-16.kml This map includes all places referenced in Pound's first sixteen Cantos: I'm currently working from a spreadsheet, but would love to learn more in the way of strategies for augmenting, expanding, and streamlining my input and output processes. As for Nicholas Carr, Slavoj Žižek, Galaga, and so forth, my job title gives me a broad mandate to work in literature, film studies, and media studies, so I'm especially interested in translating Žižek's propensity for cinematic thinking into the realm of the digital humanities.
