I am an Asst Professor of History in the Department of Gender and Race Studies at the University of Alabama. My research focuses on race, class, and gender in pre-1920 United States and Atlantic World, African American experience, Civil War era, and Reconstruction. My book, Educational Reconstruction: African American Schools in the Urban South, 1865-1890, is forthcoming from Fordham University Press, April 2016.
