I am a graduate student (MA candidate, history) who is studying the cultural and intellectual history of the United States. Over the past summer, I took part in a digital history project called HeritageCrowd in which we (a team consisting of a professor and another student) used Omeka and Ushahidi, two web-based platform, to crowdsource local history stories from the Upper Ottawa Valley in Canada using SMS, voice mail, and web form submissions. From this experience, I've become interested in technological applications to history/grassroots history and the gameification of historical work.
