I have been a librarian for about 20 years. I got my MLS from UCLA and have worked in the public library, but mostly in school libraries, most recently for 15 years with 7th-12th graders at a competitive Independent School. I enjoy being a librarian and it influences all that i do. I blog about it, read about it, think about it, and live it. I am enamored with all things Google, even though I know it has flaws. I am obsessed with making the right ebook choices for my library. I don't feel that the internet is making us stupid, although I do feel like it might help me skim the surface of some ideas. I do think the Internet has given us creative and intellectual choices unavailable when I was growing up. I have heroes - Mimi Ito, David Bowie, my 13-year-old son. I love that information is everywhere, and I enjoy learning ways to make that a powerful idea for teenagers. I want them to control and use information instead of the other way around. I want my students to understand where they stand in the digital world, and know how to make it their world, not a world passed on to them. I want to teach them how to be activists online and off in some way. I believe in my students and I want them to believe in themselves. Oh, and I want to understand Minecraft as well as I used to understand frogger and incorporate those gaming skills into my library without spending my whole allowance!
