I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at UNC Charlotte and my research focuses on the relationship between media, popular culture, and popular morality, particularly within the context of mediated sport. Specific themes from my work include (for example) the relationship between mediated representations of character and race, the role of haunting and voice in perceptions of civil rights activism among athletes, and the implications of television technologies (e.g. instant replay) for how we view sports history. When I look at the role of media technologies in all of this, I take a rhetorical/critical-cultural approach that I believe is well-suited to the general scope of "digital humanities."
