While I have been working as a mechanical/aerospace engineer for the last ten years, in my spare time I am also a multimedia artist with the ability to express my creativity through many traditional and digital mediums. I spend much of my time trying to figure out how I can use information technology to gain a better understanding of one my greatest personal interests, the American Civil War. My current method of this exploration is using Google Earth and its API to develop 3D interactive maps of famous battles that include overlays of historical maps, 3D models of various structures, links to relevant media, and geolocated imagery from the battle or that time period. You can see an example of one of my maps here: The Battle of Fort Sumter: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=36023c2b214a7ec6afd27533a7da9d44 I also keep a blog called "3D American Civil War in Google Earth" (http://3dcivilwar.blogspot.com) where I create 3D geomodels or feature models that others have made of locations that have historical significance to the Civil War I have also worked with the Monocacy National Battlefield in Frederick , MD to create a "Virtual Monocacy," which was 3D geomodels of all their historical buildings on their battlefield and publish them in the 3D layer of Google Earth. You can see the tour here: http://www.nps.gov/mono/photosmultimedia/virtualtour.htm
