I am teaching a Freshman course next Fall. I would like to start by getting each student to set up a personal domain, but would like some guidance on what tools to introduce to beginners. I think everyone needs a personal web site and a blog, but I would like to know what other people have done and how it worked out. In my own research, for several years I have been looking for software to redraw and animate astronomical diagrams from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, so far with limited success. I am also just beginning to explore visual presentation of knowledge flows in astronomy for the same period.
