I joined the Francis Marion University faculty in 2012 after teaching composition, literature, professional writing, and American Studies courses at Indiana University and Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington, Indiana. My primary research area is the medical humanities, and in 2012, I completed my dissertation on scenes of contagious disease in American and African American literature from 1870-1940. In addition to the medical humanities, I have research and teaching interests in memoir, professional writing, and writing in digital environments. I built and manage my department’s website and blog. I'm a former contributing author to GradHacker on Inside Higher Ed. I enjoy blogging at my own site, The Ambulant Scholar, in my spare time.
