I am a developing museum professional, being a recent undergraduate of St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and an incoming graduate student in Fall 2011 at the University of South Carolina’s Masters in Public History Program with a concentration in museum studies. My undergraduate degree consisted of a history major and an anthropology minor, with an anthropology course giving me a very basic exposure to museum theory. This exposure, however, led me to an idea for my senior honors project in which I looked at the ways in which history museums could use technology to provide a more personal and visitor-focused museum experience by performing a literature review, interviewing museum professionals, and studying different ways in which museums use technology. This research helped me realize that I do have a strong professional interest in the ways in which technologies, particularly Web 2.0, can be used throughout the history museum experience, meaning before, during, and after. Though I do love technology of all kinds, I do admit a particular interest in Facebook, tumblr, and most blogs. I have a lack of knowledge about Twitter, though I do understand its current uses and further potential for the humanities.
