I'm an undisciplined historian of technology, meaning that my empirical work is mostly historical but I happily dabble in any number of social science and humanities disciplines that can help me understand the social and political dynamics of technology. I've mostly written about nuclear things, working in France, Gabon, Madagascar, Niger, South Africa, and Namibia. But I'm hoping to write at least one non-nuclear book, on technology and power in Africa. I'm also interested in trash -- especially the super toxic stuff -- and am co-teaching a class on that this term. Hopefully that will also become a book one day. I've been trying to figure out how -- besides talking to journalists -- I can fruitfully translate my scholarship into some form of public engagement.
