I'm a PhD canadate at the University of Washington in Seattle. My research interests include: Romanticism (which is now the "long" 18th Century), drama, poetry, and painting. My dissertation investigates that creative transactions and tensions between poets and celebrity actors, in an effort to demonstrate the enormous impact actors had on the literary marketplace and poetics. The intersections between a burgeoning visual culture and a culture elite who privileged the page over the stage share an obvious affinity with how digital media is changing the way we teach, learn, and present knowledge. This is why I'm interested in participating in critical conversations regarding DH, especially those that seek to insure that as an emergent discipline, it does not, as Michel Foucault writes, "follow the well-trodden battle- lines of social conflict" in what it permits and what it prevents.
